UTP CAT 6 Cable
Cat 6 cable, also known as Category 6 cable, is a standardized twisted pair cable primarily used for Ethernet and other network physical layers. Let’s dive into the details:
Purpose and Compatibility:
- Cat 6 cable is backward compatible with Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards.
- It improves upon Cat 5 and Cat 5e by meeting more stringent specifications for crosstalk (interference between wires) and system noise.
- The cable standard specifies performance of up to 250 MHz, compared to 100 MHz for Cat 5 and Cat 5e.
UTP CAT 6A Cable
(Augmented Cat 6):
- Defined by ANSI/TIA-568.2-D, Cat 6A supports frequencies up to 500 MHz (twice that of Cat 6).
- It has improved alien crosstalk characteristics, reducing noise at high frequencies.
- ISO/IEC 11801 extended its global cabling standard with new specifications for Cat 6A components and Class E A permanent links.
Maximum Length:
- Cat 6 cable has a reduced maximum length of 55 meters (180 feet) when used for 10GBASE-T (10 Gigabit Ethernet).
- However, Cat 6A cable (augmented Cat 6) is characterized up to 500 MHz and allows 10GBASE-T to be run for the same 100-meter (330 feet) maximum distance as previous Ethernet variants.
